Trying (Live Audio/Visual): Presented at the first-ever Newburgh Fringe Festival in 2025

Trying is a live audio-visual performance that explores grief and memory through the story of a young couple navigating the loss of a family member. Kyle performs the score live — looping and layering cello, synth, and piano — while projecting a live-assembled, chance-based version of the film that's unique from night to night.

Kyle Turgeon is a filmmaker and musician whose work lives at the intersection of cinema, live music, and performance.

Immersive and emotionally charged, Kyle’s work draws audiences into the characters’ inner worlds to reveal the shared humanity between us. Rooted in values of connection and presence, every performance is unique and shaped live in the moment – a version experienced only by the people in the room.

Kyle’s work has played at festivals across the U.S. and internationally, including DOC NYC, the New Orleans Film Festival, and the Toronto Arthouse Film Festival.

OUTNewburgh-Beacon will present an audience-interactive theatrical event called 'Shared Stories', where a cast of players tell stories around the given prompts or themes, and invite the audience to respond to those themes, offer new themes, or tell their own anecdotes and stories.

What stories do we tell about ourselves, and why? In this highly interactive performance, memoirist-turned-fiction-writer Donna Minkowitz shares selections from all three of her "defiant, playful, dark and funny" books (Kirkus) and invites the audience to come up with on-the-spot micro-memoirs and micro-fiction stories about themselves. Along the way, we discuss how we "make ourselves up" and how we play with the stories that we tell about ourselves. The audience will have opportunities to write, to share their writing, and to join the discussion.

Donna Minkowitz is the winner of a Lambda Literary Award, a GLAAD Media Award, an Exceptional Merit Media Award, and an Art Omi residency fellowship. Her memoirs include Ferocious Romance: What My Encounters With The Right Taught Me About S*x, God, And Fury and Growing Up Golem. Her autofiction novel is Donnaville.

Big Mountain Entertainment presents Ayanna Martine. Hailing from Hudson Valley Upstate New York, Ayanna Martine is the consummate singer/songwriter entertainer. She specializes in writing about everything and anything. If you're looking for someone to write a jingle, be it about your product or commercial situation, Ayanna Martine is the musical artist to do it.

Ayanna is equally proficient with the keyboard, piano, guitar, and Ukulele; as she composes original songs specifically on all four instruments. She has toured the Midwest as well as the east coast. It was a pleasure for her to travel to Los Angeles, California to perform a song she wrote for The Matthew Silverman Memorial Foundation (Teen Su***de). - http://www.mattsfoundation.org/

Her song lyrics are truly poetry in song, which are only match by seeing Ayanna Martine "Live". To experience an Ayanna Martine performance live is a musical performance not soon forgotten by all she is grateful to perform for. Her musical influences run the gambit from Stevie Wonder, Twenty One Pilots to Blink 182, as well as the "whole nine" of genres from R&B, Pop Punk, and Alternative Rock.

Woman(ish) is an all women and non-binary cast of improvers from throughout the southern Hudson Valley. Our aim is to share laughter with audiences and support local causes improving the lives of women and non-binary people throughout the region and the world. This show combines improvised scenes by the Woman(ish) team followed by a “mixer” so you can take the plunge and try out a bit of improv yourself!

POCKET CHANGE is an anthology of eleven (11) short plays your coins perform for you. Housed within a small cardboard theater, named Lin-coin Cent-er, the plays use literal coins as the actors. The complete project consists of this theater, a small booklet containing the plays and associated notes, and a series of backdrops created for each of the plays. For this production you are handed a package of the materials to perform POCKET CHANGE and invited to a table where you can open it and explore. After our time is up you may keep the anthology and theater so you can perform the pieces again where ever, and whenever, you would like.

Newburgh Fringe Festival showcases thrilling and thought-provoking performing arts from Newburgh and across the Hudson Valley. The festival encompasses original theater, existing plays with a new take, plays that have never been staged, full length, short form, sketches, standup, one person, puppetry, musicians, dancers, clowns, merrymakers and anything else that falls under performing arts. Our goal is to present innovative, immersive, and experimental programming that employs creativity, diversity, and inclusivity.
