OUT OF THE BOX THEATRE COMPANY

Out of the Box Theatre Company (OotB) was founded by artistic director Scott Robinson in 2006. His original idea was for a production of Moliere’s play The Miser underscored with the music of Mozart and utilizing theatre professionals mostly over the age of 50 in age-blind casting. Since 2007, Out of the Box Theatre Company has done one or two productions a year, including comedies, dramas, and staged readings. We have expanded our range with plays of increasingly serious subject matter and brought in name directors. Out of the Box Theatre Company’s mission is to feature working theater professionals at their peak and in their prime: seasoned actors, directors, and designers primarily past 50 years of age, providing opportunity and freedom to work outside the restrictions of age, race, s*x, and disability; to present new interpretations of period plays and contemporary classics, mainly works over 50 years old; and, when appropriate, to incorporate live music performances to enhance the mood and as between-scenes entertainment. An important part of the mission is to provide live theater to the growing low-income and disabled population who might not attend theater otherwise by donating at least 25% of the tickets to low-income senior citizens. Since 2018, OotB has performed at the Bernie Wohl Center at Goddard Riverside Community Center. Prior to that we spent five years at the West End Theatre, preceded by several seasons at the Hudson Theatre Guild and the Bank Street Theatre. OotB founder Scott Robinson was diagnosed with cancer in December 2010 and died April 24, 2011. We lovingly dedicate all performances to his memory and thank our audiences and supporters for helping us keep Scott’s vision alive.

Out of the Box Theatre Company is excited to announce the first production of its 2026–27 season: DRACULA, adapted by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston from Bram Stoker’s famous novel. This AEA-approved Showcase is directed by Jeffery V. Thompson.

Perfect for the Halloween season, Deane and Balderston’s classic 1927 stage hit brings stylish gothic terror to a timeless world of shadow and suspense. When Lucy Seward falls victim to a bizarre, blood-draining ailment and nocturnal terrors, her desperate father and fiancé summon renowned specialist Professor Van Helsing. The culprit? The mysterious Count Dracula, an ancient vampire lurking right next door who commands creeping mist, swarming bats, and an insect-munching lunatic named Renfield. Can Van Helsing’s wolfsbane and stakes stop the charismatic King of Vampires before sunrise?

This production of DRACULA is adapted from the 1927 public domain version of the script.

The play will be performed October 15–18, 2026 at the Bernie Wohl Center, 647 Columbus Ave., NYC, NY.

Cast: The cast includes Chiara De Caroli, Sheila Dehner,* Andrea Galatà, Alvin Keith,* Grant Machan,* Madeline McCray,* Mary Sheridan, and David Winning.*
