Public Charge

Like taking a back seat to the driving forces of international diplomacy and getting an inside understanding to how things really work and don't work. We as citizens usually only see the news reports when something has happened, never in on the blood, sweat, and tears of the effort put in to make something successful. Public Charge gives you such a ride....

Touch

By Tulis McCall Many folks would think that sitting in a chair for 90 or so minutes and telling a story would be an easy thing to do. It is not. And Anthony Rapp does a damn fine job in spite of the limitations placed upon him in "Touch". This is the tale of a grammar school drama teacher named Syd Blatter who, because his last name is a temptation for ridicule, lets his grammar school students call him Mr....

JESA

Grace (Shannon Tyo) and her three sisters are gathering for Jesa, a Korean ceremony honoring their parents—a ritual of loved ones gathering to ask for the blessings of the dead. But, while these Korean American siblings have yearned and worked for the acceptance and praise of their Appa and Umma while they were living, this pursuit continues after they’re gone. Their reckonings are painful, and the gasps from the audience as each sister accepts their own pasts and decisions tell me that I’m not the only one surprised by these unexpected twists of loss. We watch these sisters grieve much more than the loss of their parents, but we also experience the hope they finally see in themselves, for themselves....

Every Brilliant Thing

This is a beautifully crafted piece that is given to us. It is not extraordinary in its narrative. It is extraordinary in its attention to universal details. In its attention to the minute, the mighty and the brilliant....

EVERY BRILLIANT THING - I am not big on "Interactive" theatre. I want to sit in the dark and watch whoever do whatever in the most brightly lit corner of the room. In this case, however, the houselights never dim completely and Daniel Radcliffe becomes the Pied Piper of our dreams. He takes us throu...

Monte Cristo: A New Musical

It is 120 minutes of great storytelling with music and song that will fill your heart and head and bring you laughter and joy. It is a story for our time, for any time where those in charge are overcome by greed seeking greater and greater power and positions of control. Making their way to the top by destroying the lives of others. It flows with such beautiful brilliance. You do not want the night to end. The cast is a formidable ensemble....

This is an epic story of revenge, forgiveness and hope. Hope that life and love can be restored. Hope that nothing is lost forever. The characters, seeing that in their desires for more because enough is never enough, lose who they were, “How did I get so far away from me?” In the end the consci...

Plan C

Despite an excellent, thoughtful set design, evocative music and clever plot conceit, PLAN C suffers from a lack of cohesion, perhaps due to the collective nature of its development. Too many cooks have been at this broth, to the extent that at times the actors don’t seem to be in the same play. I’m sorry to say this, because the performers are clearly committed to their work and passionate about the theory, but in practice the groupthink result feels clunky, making it a well-meaning, near miss for me. ...
