This was where everything began to change.
November 1942. North Africa.
For the first time, American forces would enter the war in a major way—landing alongside British troops in a coordinated invasion across Morocco and Algeria.

It was called Operation Torch.
The objective was clear: secure North Africa and begin pushing Axis forces out.
But the situation wasn’t simple
French forces in the region were divided. Some resisted. Others stood down. Confusion spread across the battlefield.

Supplies were nearly gone.

So the Allies launched Operation Pedestal.
A massive convoy of ships would attempt to break through enemy defenses and deliver what Malta desperately needed.

Italy had turned against its former leader, Benito Mussolini. He was arrested and hidden away in a remote mountain hotel at Gran Sasso—high above the ground, surrounded by steep terrain, impossible to assault from land.
But Germany wasn’t going to leave him there.
A rescue mission was planned.
Not by a large force… but by a small group of elite troops.
They would arrive from the sky.
Gliders were chosen—silent, precise, and incredibly risky. No engines meant no second attempt. One mistake in landing could destroy the entire mission.
