Taller Boricua hosted Impresiones de Resistencia — a film screening and dialogue celebrating Puerto Rican printmaking as a living act of resistance, community, and cultural memory.

The evening took place in our Rafael Tufiño Printmaking Workshop space and featured a rich conversation with an incredible panel:
🎬 Director Reinaldo Gil Zambrano
🎞️ Producer Miranda K. Metcalf
🖼️ Artist Poli Marichal
📚 Collector & Cultural Advocate Alexis "La Cabra" Figueroa
✊ Artists featured in the film: Fraixa Albizu Rodríguez & Javier Moreno

The documentary shines a light on División de Educación de la Comunidad (DIVEDCO) and the generations of artists who turned printmaking into a tool for public education, cultural affirmation, and collective memory — work that remains deeply relevant today.
The room was full of energy, joy, and connection.

This also marks a milestone as the first NAICA-hosted screening under our affiliation with Taller Boricua. We're proud to carry this tradition forward.

This past Saturday, artist Ruben Natal-San Miguel gave an exclusive tour of WELCOME TO HARLEM USA to students from Lehman College , led by Professor Magdalena Sagardía-Jiménez—who teaches Latin American and Caribbean studies, the Latino diaspora, Spanish, art and literature—and Vice President Gabriel Bencosme of the Latinos Unidos Club.

The group explored Ruben's 25-year visual archive of East and West Harlem as part of a larger tour examining the roots and legacy of the Latino diaspora in El Barrio. Students had an inspiring experience meeting Ruben, engaging in rich conversations about photography, community, and cultural preservation—the kind of exchange that inspires generations of artists to come.

It was a lovely and enriching afternoon connecting students with art that reflects their communities and histories.

📍 WELCOME TO HARLEM USA is on view through May 17 at Taller Boricua Gallery, 1680 Lexington Avenue.

Art doesn't just hang on walls—it witnesses, preserves, testifies.
Taller Boricua opened WELCOME TO HARLEM USA, and our community showed up in force. Ruben Natal-San Miguel's 25 years of photographing East and West Harlem filled the gallery—and so did the people whose stories his lens has honored.

For over two decades, Ruben has captured what too often goes unseen: the vernacular beauty of small businesses, the expressive pride of communities in transformation, the quiet dignity owed to all who call these neighborhoods home.

The reception was a homecoming—artists, elders, neighbors gathering to see themselves reflected with reverence. This is what Taller Boricua has stood for since 1969: creating space where culture, community, and creativity converge.

Preservation is an act of love. When we witness together, we resist erasure together.
