Joanna Parisi, soprano, dual citizen of Italy and USA, sings leading opera roles internationally. Her debut was the title role of Tosca in Central Park, New York, a role she will reprise in 2024 in Brazil. Her Wagnerian roles include Elsa in Lohengrin and Elisabeth in Tannhäuser. She is a finalist in the upcoming Wagner Fritz Melchior International competition in Denmark in April 2024. She sings many Verdi roles, including Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo, the title role of Aida, both Leonoras in Il trovatore and La forza del destino, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Abigaille in Nabucco, Desdemona in Otello among others. Her verismo roles include many performances of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Maddalena de Coigny in Andrea Chenier, and the title roles of Manon Lescaut and Madama Butterfly of Puccini. She performs both roles in Bizet’s Carmen- the title role of Carmen in Seoul, South Korea and in New York, and Micaëla in Italy and Brazil. She appeared as Micaëla in Carmen at the Ancient Theater of Taormina in a film version that was internationally released and featured at the Berlin Film Festival. She also sang the bel canto roles of Lucrezia Borgia and Norma.
Special recognition includes the Maria Callas Tribute Prize from the Italian Consulate in New York in 2022, awarded to those who stand out in the world of Italian culture, art and social justice, The Next Generation of Great Opera Singers by WQXR Classical Radio of New York, district winner in NY state from The Metropolitan Opera National Council, and quarterfinalist in Operalia, the World Opera Competition.
She studied opera performance in New York at the Purchase Conservatory and at Juilliard, and she also studied engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
