“It’s a New World: Celebrating Ira Gershwin” Cabaret vocalist Bob O’Hare makes his first pandemic-era appearance, and his first live-stream appearance ever, in his MetropolitanZoom debut with “It’s a New World: Celebrating Ira Gershwin,” on Sunday, September 19th at 2 PM (ET). Original...

CHILI

With just four weeks to go till I hit my 70th birthday and my little solo singing celebration, “Water Under the Bridge,” on MetroZoom, I’m honored to be able to share this piece which has just been released on Table Talks, the series created by PocketBear Productions.

As I approach this milestone, I’ve become deeply committed to learning more about myself and how I can better commit and contribute to the world around me. I think “A Man Eating a Bowl of Chili,” (which they’ve shortened to “Chili” for the release), written by Robert Moulthrop and directed by Anthony Caruso, is a great step in the right direction.

I’d be thrilled and honored if you, my friends, colleagues and family, would visit the YouTube link, watch the piece, like and comment and, even more importantly, share it with others.

I’m proud of the work and want more than anything for it to get the exposure I think it deserves. Thanks always to David Sitler for recommending me to the PocketBear team! Enjoy!

Jump/Cut…One minute it was Winter 2020 and the next it’s Spring 2021…and the future, uncertain though it may be, lies before us.
A life does the same thing. That’s what this new cabaret show is all about. Who knew that, in the middle of a pandemic lockdown, time would become more precious than ever?

Who knew we’d all collectively discover chocolate chip banana bread and air fryers and ice cream machines and German lessons online and even spinning wheels…or our own versions of those things. Binging replaced selective viewing, and zooming replaced live interaction..And we’re all still struggling with what it will take to re-enter the world once it starts up again.

The adventure is just beginning….We'll be there. Will you? Jump/Cut at MetropolitanZoom on Thursday, 4/15/21 @ 7PM ET (…and shhh…There’s also a way to watch the show even if you can’t be there for the livestream. Go to our ticket link to check it out!)

#2020

03/20/2021

As we all begin the slow process of reentering the world after our year long enforced hibernation, now is the perfect time to move back into the light and see what’s still out there and what’s to come.

It’s time to step away from chocolate chip banana bread and zoom cocktail hours, pasta machines and free-floating anxiety, and all those pandemic pounds and, instead, find our collective way back to before and on into the future.

Jump/Cut travels back and forth in time, as Eric Michael Gillett and musical director Mike Pettry examine old treasures in a new light and discover new pleasures in what lies ahead.

Here’s a sneak peek at the first rehearsal as EMG and Mike prep for the April 15th/7PM (ET) debut of the show via .
And for friends and colleagues not in this time zone, rest assured. and the team behind MetropolitanZoom promise a private link for a future viewing should your time zone, or anything else for that matter, keeps you from being able to experience Jump/Cut live!

Meet the Artist: Eric Michael Gillett

With a resolution for 2021

In these crazy pandemic times, it’s been such a joy to have the 2020 Benjamin House Holiday Gala to create, both for drawing attention (and much-needed support) for this wonderful establishment. But now it’s time to say good-bye to 2020 and to the , which only streams for one more day. You can still register and view at

But even if you don’t, I heartily suggest you get out there and make your own resolution for starting 2021. Carpe diem…Ah to heck with it. Seize the whole darned year!

Meet Ben!

A DREAM IS A WISH YOUR HEART MAKES

When Benjamin Hughes came to the the year that we met, neither of us had any idea the impact it would have on both of our lives. As his mother, , has written to me, "Last night when I got home from , I started thinking about the way our lives have been woven together in this beautiful tapestry, and how each year more lives are woven into the pattern through you because of your giving and caring spirit! I believe that it is a God woven pattern. I know you could have easily crumbled up and thrown away the note I scribbled on a torn off piece of paper so many years ago, asking if my child could meet you because he hoped to be a someday. Because of the spirit within you, God used you to make the difference you have made in Ben’s life, and in all of our family! As well as the residents at Benjamin House and their families. Of course you have made such a difference in the lives of all of your students and really anyone whose path crosses your path. It is just obvious to me that all of this is part of God’s plan.”

This faith based family has changed the life of this lapsed Catholic forever. And making Ben’s circus dreams come true, even partially, opened my eyes and my soul to the glory of the human spirit and to the idea that everyone’s dream should have a chance. When Gina Alayne Allison took over making up Benjamin for his first appearance with Clown Alley that first year, I cried like a baby. When he first traveled on the circus train, the thrill of watching him light up with joy just watching the world pass by and, as we neared certain towns, watching folks gather up in their back yards to wave on the annual tradition of the train passing through on its way to its next destination was enough to tell me that we would be friends for life.

I’m not a sentimentalist. I’m not particularly smart. Lord knows, I may not even be really talented at what I do. But I’m a better human for knowing Benjamin and his family. And this holiday season, with all that’s wrong in the world, that’s enough. That’s more than enough!

The will stream through January 1st 2021!

Meet the performers - Sidney Myer!

Sidney Myer, the multiple award-winning icon of the New York City cabaret world, works on stage as a performer and behind the scenes as the renowned booking manager for NYC’s legendary Don't Tell Mama NYC.

He has been praised, profiled, and reviewed with so many superlatives that it literally boggles the mind. One theater journalist was not exaggerating when he called Sidney Myer “the heart of the cabaret community.” And he is truly beloved by all, both for his gifts as an artist and his incredible support for every artist who crosses his path.

As Sidney himself puts it, “I think that when anyone lives to a certain time in your life, you have a lot to tell. Cabaret has always been my destination of choice to perform, mainly because it was always an open door. Even though the world is changing as we speak, one thing has remained constant in show business through the years: Whenever anyone arrives on these Manhattan shores, whether it’s from Peoria or Paris or Palisades Park, the first door open to you is cabaret. Meaning: Before anyone knows you, to put you in a show, you put YOURSELF in a show. If you go back far enough in so many careers– movie stars, songwriters, performers– you’ll often find that they got their first New York stage exposure in cabaret. That’s often how they progressed. People saw them, and then they wound up on the world stage. I’ve witnessed this countless times. That tradition remains!”

When asked to participate in the Benjamin House 2019 NYC Holiday Gala, he agreed without hesitation and his two numbers that night were spectacular. He literally had the audience eating out of his hand, as he does every time he takes the stage. One moment hilarious, wringing every laugh to be had out of his specialty material, and the next heart-wrenching as he stripped away all performing ‘masks’ and delivered a killer version of “Nothing is Too Wonderful to Be True.”

Benjamin House is forever grateful for Sidney’s support and performance!
