Introduction: About the wardrobe in the spare room.
The wardrobe is A family heirloom that seems to make itself into the will when the house is passed down to relatives, with certain loop holds written in & if not abided by the house seems to remove itself from its owner until the owner caves into the houses will. For example, one relative inherited the house in 1965 from the last. & wanted the wardrobe broken to wood chips. As he was doing this it seemed that every pipe burst & anything that could possibly go wrong in the house did. Until he was so busy with repairs he forgot all about the wardrobe & left it alone. Until he passed it down to his daughter upon her marriage 1981. Who wanted the wardrobes refurbished and painted pink for her daughter bedroom. The aftermath was a disaster of pink and paint everywhere except on the wood itself. convincing the painters that the house was possessed and he with his crew left reusing ever to do any kind of work on this house ever again.
After his incident, the wardrobe in the spare room was locked away. The key placed in A safe draw in the hallway wall table ( another family antique) & left there. The little girl whose nursery was to be painted pink grew into A young women of great intellect and after studying at the top university & entering the field of law, became A employed as A Barrister married one, settled and had her own family. Breaking with tradition she decided to leave the wardrobe alone & keep the room under lock & key. As her Mother said " the house seems to behave best when that room is undisturbed by guests!
When the need arose for the Misses as she is called by the Head housekeeping Mrs. Sears & her husband Mr. Sears ( the Gardner & on hand handyman since all others have heard the rumours of this house being possessed) for a new Nanny & house help (Ms Sears is the house cook & Head of staff, she makes a certain order is kept in chaos) she was happy the ad was responded to by A none local who was unaware of the history of the house & unafraid to live in. Accommodation for her family; meaning A wife & husband where to be offered the job, but due to A sense of urgency the Misses bent for the Widow with two children in need of work.
Why A widow & two children are being able to move in, comes with the young misses personal experiences with children not been very pleasant. Since it was rumoured that the house was possessed & the young Ms. (Ms Alexa Lanbrush to be exact) was A witch. Since the Mother when she was younger had very few friends her father sent her to boarding school to get away from these rumours at 8 years old. This did not work out so well for Ms Alexa since A young local from the same neighbourhood attended the same school & she was called The Witch of the wardrobe. Alexa returned home & was to be homeschooled from then on. Alexa's playdates were with relatives who felt sorry for her. Ms. Alexa did not develop very good social skills. If it were not for the homeschool teacher ( or governess) Ms Lucy, who arrives one day from out of the blue (literally). She might not have learned how to socialize at all.
On the first day of work, Ms. Alexa said " The children won't talk to me" In which Ms. Lucy replied, " Well Why not?" Ms. Alexa the responded harshly " They think I am the Witch of the Wardrobe". Ms. Lucy laughed and said, "I can tell from personal experience you are defiantly not the Witch from the Wardrobe."
Ms Alexa was very settled, but A family emergency took the last house help/nanny couple away. The Misses need to find A replacement fast. She & her husband work late hours, they needed to fill the position before the house became A filthy disaster & Alexa too. Now Misses Sears put out an Ad on the internet site Domestic God's & Goddesses subtitled: in need of or in need of work we can meet your needs to post an ad or respond to one for A small fee. Hoping to find someone that had never heard of the house & its hauntings (thanks to episodes of England's most haunted places the old house was now famous, even though the family claims it is just a rumour). She was thrilled to find A response from Ms Nellie Conway ( a widow), who inquired if she did both Nanny & house help would she be allowed to secure room & board for her two young children. Since this was the only response in 2 weeks; the house was beginning to look as if it was really possed & so was Ms Alexa. She immediately contacted the Misses & with her persuasive manner got her to agree to the terms asked by Ms Conway. With two new children now living in the Haunted House. Ms Lucy was asked if she minded taking 2 new students for additional pay. She agreed & the 3 members of the Conway family where on their way by train.
Mr Sears put on his best outfit to greet them. Hoping to dodge any inquiries from the rush hour train crowd & also hoping to keep the Conways from any rumours on that might meet their ears. Mrs Sears booked them on the train from London that would arrive at 8:00 pm. They would arrive At the house by car by 9:00 pm for A late supper.
Now the Wardrobe in the spare room seemed to be working its magic in presence of New company on its way. For 3 nights in A row, prior to Conway family's arrival, the door of the spare room seemed to be jumping in it's hinges causing a sound that had Ms Alexa up at night wandering down the hall to see if the rumours were true. Was this house possessed by A spirit? Had that spirit decided now was the time to reveal itself. The reply was given to her at breakfast the next day by Mrs Sears " it just A hard wind on an old door. This house is over 100 years old you know, now eat before Ms Lucy is upset that you are late for your school time!
A haunting was something Alexa was beginning to believe was true until the Conway family arrived. A new set of adventures are about to open up its door. For children are extraordinary; when they believe they are imagining it! It can actually happen; given correct place time & circumstances. Guidance from the right teacher & the ability to hear A calling form far away!
