When installing tile on a wall, timing matters a lot when working with thin-set mortar. Once thin-set is spread with a trowel, it begins to set up quickly. If tile isn’t installed immediately, the mortar can start forming a skin on the surface, which weakens the bond between the tile and the wall. A common best practice in tile installation is to only trowel a small section at a time, then place the tiles right away.
