During the last Trump presidency, I spent a lot of time being freshly shocked every day by the antics of a terrible man. Now? I am readying myself to be in a state of vigilance – if we are to survive the onslaught of corruption, grift, opportunism, and outright racist mendacity, we are going to have to call it out at every turn. I am rewiring my daily life and networks to find a way to be useful to others in that capacity

Because I have a family, I fight for other families. Because I have a home, I fight for others to have homes. Because I am able to love openly and freely, I fight for others to love and live openly and freely. Because I worship as I wish, I fight for others to worship as they wish. I have so much to be grateful for that compels me to help others live their lives as fully as I have been able to. Happy Thanksgiving.

Since election day, I have been slowly detangling myself from as many billionaire concerns as I can. There are a lot of ways I will never fully extricate myself – all the ways that our society depends on the very very rich and all. But if you feel helpless or need something to do to resist, look at your daily habits and start cutting Out those that you can! For me? No more Twitter, I'm leaving Facebook by January 1, I will post very rarely to Instagram to drive people to other places where I will be. Figure out how to cut your dependence on Amazon, that one is a challenge for me too but I'm doing it. Support independent media – NPR is a wonderful news source! If you have ways that you are cutting yourself loose of billionaires and broligarchs, list them in the comments!

I have been really struggling. After the initial heartbreak and rage, I have had to slog through that old familiar dread. I grew up in a pretty hostile time and place. The only way I survived was that I just refused to leave before they loved me. This is not a panacea, this is not the only way. But remember, that you are complete and lovable as you are. If you leave places of conversation, you leave the narrative to those who do not care. Not to mention, there is goodness possible in so many hearts. I know from my lived experience that most people just don't hate as quite ferociously up close. You have to do what you need to do, but maybe this can be a tool in your tool kit. I know you're there and I love you. No retreat!

I can still be effective on the local level. I can still love my fellow man. I am not wrong to want my personhood unscrambled by hate groups. I will not mortgage my planet and its future for a temporary gain in my purse. I may be worthless to those in power, but I am going to find a way to help whoever needs help here at home. There is a reason fascist were voted in – people are in pain, people are desperate. I refuse to fall for the trap that anyone who voted for that man is evil. There are plenty who openly prove their motivations, but there are so so many who are just hurting and under financial strains that have been unrelenting. My love of humanity and for humanity remains ungovernable.
