There are seasons in life for gathering, seasons for teaching, and seasons for returning to our own creative work.
Lately, I've been spending more time focused on family, embracing some meaningful life transitions, and making space to reconnect with my own artistic practice. As much as I love teaching, artists also need time to create, explore, observe, and refill the well from which our work grows.
One of the greatest gifts of The Squid & The Whale Art Studio has been sharing creativity with others—watching a child discover a new skill, seeing someone's confidence grow through the creative process, or witnessing the simple joy that comes from making something with your own hands. Those moments continue to inspire me and remind me why art matters.
While I've stepped back from regular posting and classes for now, The Squid & The Whale Art Studio remains close to my heart. I continue to believe in the importance of creativity, connection, craftsmanship, curiosity, and making things slowly and thoughtfully in a fast-moving world.
If you have questions, are interested in private art lessons, or would like to organize a creative gathering or art experience for your group, please feel free to reach out by email. If I am able to fit it into my schedule, I would be delighted to connect.
Thank you for being part of this creative community and for supporting this journey over the years. I look forward to sharing new artwork, ideas, and inspiration as this next season unfolds.

With gratitude,
Gina Denberg

Many years ago, I had the privilege of working alongside the most creative coworkers and students.
I recently came across this old newspaper photo, and it brought back so many beautiful memories. That chapter of my life shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time. I learned so much — about teaching, about art, and about the quiet magic that happens when people create together.
So grateful for those years and everyone who was part of them.

Hilma af Klint beautifully captures the contrast between feelings of insignificance and the immense potential within.

Af Klint was a pioneering artist known for her abstract works and spiritual themes. Her reflections often delve into the relationship between the individual and the universal, emphasising how even those who feel small can possess a profound inner strength.

This sentiment resonates deeply in various contexts, from personal growth to artistic expression.

It suggests that regardless of how we perceive ourselves in the grand scheme of things, the energy and creativity we carry can lead to meaningful change.

A glimpse into our recent beginner charcoal drawing workshop, hosted in a cozy home studio setting.
Students explored new drawing tools and mediums while working from a curated still life to create more realistic, expressive drawings. The focus was on mindful observation, experimentation, and enjoying the process of learning something new. Such a lovely afternoon of creativity, curiosity, and shared learning — a meaningful way to gather, create, and connect through art.
Interested in hosting a charcoal drawing workshop for your group, school, or community space — a beautiful way to gather and create together. I’d love to create one for you.

Soft wool, warm water, mindful hands.
Here’s a glimpse into a recent wet felting class at our local homeschool 4H club, where students transformed loose fibers into beautiful bowls and purses — each piece a reflection of process, patience, and personal expression.
