👀 Is she looking back at us?
👁️ One of the first things people notice about Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani's portraits is the eyes. Often almond shaped, mismatched, or strangely unreadable, they give his sitters an air of mystery.
🎨 Modigliani developed a unique style after moving from Italy to Paris in 1906, immersing himself in the city's vibrant avant-garde art scene, where artists looked beyond Europe for inspiration, studying African sculpture and masks displayed in Paris's museums.
Take a closer look. What was she thinking? Where is she looking?
