š āThe sun was low, and the heavens glowed with the splendor of an autumn sunset. Gold and purple clouds lay on the hilltops, and rising high into the ruddy light were silvery white peaks that shone like the airy spires of some Celestial City.ā š
On this day in 1868, the first volume of Louisa May Alcottās Little Women was published ā introducing readers to Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March and giving us one of literatureās coziest worlds just in time for autumn.
More than 150 years later, thereās still something about Little Women that feels particularly right when the leaves begin to turn: books, writing, firesides, family, growing up, and (of course) Jo March scribbling away feverishly.
So in honor of Alcott and the March sisters, we have to ask: Which March sister are you?
And if crisp air makes you want to wander through the stories and writers of New York City, come get literary with us in Greenwich Village this fall. šš
