This past Sunday, Staten Island Talent () was truly honored to be invited by John Kilcullen and the Preservation League of Staten Island () to receive the "Business Beautiful" Award on behalf of Edgewater Hall ()

The recognition was presented in appreciation of our volunteer efforts, community programming, and public events produced at Edgewater Hall over the past 6+ months throughout the holiday season and beyond, all centered around reopening the doors of this historic 150-year-old building to the community in an effort to help preserve its legacy and continued presence on Bay Street since 1876.

The ceremony itself was held at the historic Reformed Church on Staten Island, a Staten Island landmark, making the setting especially meaningful for an afternoon dedicated to preservation, restoration, and community history.

The event recognized more than a dozen homes, buildings, restoration projects, and preservation efforts across Staten Island, highlighting the incredible work being done throughout the borough to protect and celebrate our architectural and cultural history. The afternoon concluded with an insightful presentation from Eileen of the Olmsted-Beil House reflecting on preservation efforts and the importance of maintaining these historic spaces for future generations.

For those unfamiliar, the Preservation League of Staten Island has spent decades advocating for the protection, restoration, and appreciation of historic sites throughout the borough. Their work plays a major role in preserving Staten Island’s identity, history, and sense of place for generations to come.

We’re incredibly grateful to be recognized alongside so many passionate individuals and organizations doing meaningful work throughout the community.

Thank you again to the Preservation League of Staten Island, John Kilcullen, and everyone involved in making the afternoon so special.

(02/16/2026) - Today, Staten Island’s creative community lost an amazing artist, father, teacher, and friend.

We’re grateful for all of the moments Lyle Foxman shared with us through his live sketches, including this one at Edgewater Hall back in 2017.

His early and continued support of SI Talent helped create such a unique and meaningful experience for guests over the years.

He will be truly missed.

Our prayers are with his wife and family.

Rest in peace, Lyle.

2016 - Edgewater Hall

These nights were built around the artists.

Each mixer typically featured 10+ visual artists across various mediums, alongside live performances throughout the evening.

Musicians donated their time, equipment, and energy, including Antonio Mancilla () who regularly hosted the live music portion before heading to his own shows later that night.

Everything here was self-funded, supported by small sponsors, and made possible by a shared belief that creative work deserved space and respect.

As 2026 approaches, marking 10 years of Staten Island Talent and 150 years of Edgewater Hall, this feels like the right moment to acknowledge everyone who helped carry this forward.

More to come...

2016 (Dec) - By our second networking mixer, the room told the story on its own.

What began as a response to a loss quickly became a point of gravity. Artists across various disciplines showed up. Musicians performed. Information about Bay Street, development projects, grants, and how to keep building locally, was shared openly.

These mixers weren’t about a single venue or scene..

They were about continuity throughout our entire community.

#2016 - A Look Back.

When Hashtag Bar (388 Van Duzer St) suddenly closed its doors in the summer of 2016, Staten Island lost one of its few remaining live performance spaces. Overnight, hundreds of local artists, musicians, and creatives were left without a place to gather, share work, or talk about what came next.

That moment is what led to this room.

Staten Island Talent () was formed to keep the creative community close, and Edgewater Hall () opened its doors so those conversations didn’t disappear with the venue. These early mixers were free, self-funded, and built around information sharing, artist showcases, and live performance.
