Experience the Art of Japanese Calligraphy with Master Rihaku.

It is customary for Zen calligraphy to be hung in the alcove during the Japanese tea ceremony. As our regular calligraphy class, we welcome calligrapher Rihaku.

Join Japanese calligraphy master Rihaku as we explore the gentle beauty of early summer through the graceful art of hiragana—Japan’s uniquely flowing script.
In this special workshop, you’ll learn to write the seasonal phrase:
「あおばのきせつ　しょかの香」 (Aoba-no-kisetsu, Shoka-no-Kaori)
which translates to:
"The refreshing season of fresh green leaves has arrived—it's that beautiful time of early summer when you can feel its gentle fragrance in the air."

Guided by Master Rihaku, each participant will create a personal calligraphy piece on a traditional tanzaku strip, then design a custom backing to complement their work. You’ll take home not just a beautiful artwork, but a peaceful memory of mindful creation.

The flowing nature of hiragana makes the practice of writing both calming and meditative—a quiet retreat from the busy pace of daily life.

【Japanese Calligraphy Workshop by RIHAKU 】

Japanese Calligraphy master RIHAKU will teach and explore the beauty of early summer through Japanese words written in the elegant flow of hiragana calligraphy, a script unique to Japan.

The class will draw "Aoba-no-kisetsu Shoka-no-Kaori, “あおばのきせつ しょかの香”which translates to "The refreshing season of fresh green leaves has arrived, it's that beautiful time of early summer when you can feel its gentle fragrance in the air."🍀

Each participant will create a piece on a traditional tanzaku strip, then design a backing for it, and take home their personalized artwork.

忘備録: 遡る事2月23日、
東大寺ミュージアム様でのイベント・プロジェクションマッピング書道パフォーマンスを
3/5付け、読売新聞の奈良版に掲載頂きました✨

二月堂長老様のありがたい計らいのお陰で、会場が急遽 東大寺ミュージアムに変更にも関わらず とても有意義で 貴重な東大寺イベント10回目開催となりました事
関係者の皆様には感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

書道パフォーマンスに加え、着物着付けデモ、運気向上書ワークショップに渡り、
一緒に作り上げた今回のメンバー、
そして 広島、東京、金沢、大阪、西宮から遠路お越しくださったご参加の皆様方に あらためてお礼申し上げます✨✨🙇‍♀️
(高校卒業以来 43年ぶり再会の旧友も！)

プロジェクションマッピング書道パフォーマンスを更に進化させ、ワークショップを体験する方々が もっとワクワクする内容になるよう ブラッシュアップしたいと思っています。

Looking back to February 23rd—

Our projection mapping calligraphy performance at the Todai-ji Museum was featured in the March 5th issue of the Yomiuri Newspaper (Nara edition)!

Thanks to the kind arrangement by the head priest of Nigatsudo, the venue was changed at the last minute to the Todai-ji Museum, making this the 10th successful and meaningful event held at this historic site. I’m truly grateful to everyone involved for their incredible support.

In addition to the calligraphy performance, the event included a kimono dressing demonstration and a “Calligraphy for Good Fortune” workshop—all made possible by the amazing team who worked together so passionately.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who coming all the way from Hiroshima, Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka, and Nishinomiya to join us.
(And after 43 years, I even had a surprise reunion with a high school friend!)

I’m now more motivated than ever to evolve the projection-mapping calligraphy performance and make future workshops even more exciting and inspiring for everyone.

It is customary for Zen calligraphy to be hung in the alcove during the Japanese tea ceremony. As our regular calligraphy class, we welcome calligraphy artist, Rihaku.

As part of our traditional Japanese New Year celebrations, we decorate the alcove with auspicious words written in elegant Japanese calligraphy.
Rihaku has chosen '新年万福 吉祥 Shinnen-mampuku, Kissho,' that means 'Wishing you a very happy new year. May this new year bring happiness, joy and glorious year for you and your family.' Additionally, she will teach us the character 巳 (Mi-doshi) in gold ink, which represents the zodiac sign for 2025, the 'Year of the Snake.' This symbol signifies 'Revival and Rebirth.'

She will teach you how the characters are written using a special brush with the cursive-style of Calligraphy. Then, participants will write the same phrase with brush and ink, and take home their own finished artwork.

Here is my latest artwork, and title is “ All Day is A Good Day in The
Sun✨”
-かがやく太陽の下 すべて良き日-

I expressed my artwork with the Buddhism philosophy, Zen phrases and beauty of Japanese Calligraphy lines.
Recently I have lots of my events in the Todaiji Temple in Japan and talk with the top of priests and then I learn from him many deep things.

I will shaw it in RIHAKU Solo 10th Anniversary Exhibition since her first solo show in Gallery Max NY in Manhattan, NYC in October .
