Last night I took a DoorDash order while it was pouring rain. On the way there I got stuck behind a car accident and the traffic completely backed up the road. What should have been a quick delivery turned into an hour and a half just to reach the customer’s house.
By the time I finished the delivery and drove back home, the whole thing took almost three hours of my night. I hand the order to the customer and they pull out a $100 bill as a tip. After spending that long driving through rain and traffic just to get their food to them, I honestly couldn’t believe that was all they gave.
I just stood there thinking about how much time I had just burned on that one order. Three hours gone, dealing with rain, an accident, and traffic, and that was the tip. It felt pretty disrespectful because if I was in their position and someone went through all of that to deliver my food, I would have tipped at least $500.
