Sunday, June 22 at 3pm join artist Lizania Cruz in a consciousness-raising gathering on heat and its effects on humans and nature.
☀️
The past ten years have been the hottest on record for the planet. According to the NYC Panel on Climate Change, in 2050 New York City could become as hot as Alabama, potentially impacting the number of heat-related deaths and exacerbating the “urban heat island effect” in the city.

Join us on Sunday, April 27 from 2–4 PM for a performance by 2024–2025 A.I.R. Fellow Lu Yim featuring themselves, Kate Williams, Nam Pham, Stine An, and Cynthia Chang.
🖤
The performances will draw from found and fictional archives at the 38th Parallel of the Korean Peninsula to foreground Western imperialism’s long history of weaponizing sound and voice. Utilizing somatic inquiry and embodied disability practices, the performers explore the “hard to grasp” nature of sensation and consider how bodily dissociation might serve as an analogue for the experience of virtuality.

We're excited to update Saturday's reading to include the fiction writer Daisuke Shen () on top of an already stellar line up including poet Aristilde Kirby (), and former A.I.R. Fellow and writer Funto Omojola ()!

Reflecting on themes from the Biennial, the event explores the vulnerability of forming real-life intimacies amidst the tension between digital entanglements and analog experiences. With dreams serving as a metaphor for reconciling the real and imagined, the readings reflect on how language—written, spoken, or expressed through the body—navigates the delicate terrain of connection. It will begin at 4pm.

We hope to see you there!

Submissions are open for the 2025 A.I.R. Biennial, "Find the Body," curated by Patricia Margarita Hernández () through October 6, 2024 at 11:59 PM ED!
🩷
"Find the Body," invites artists to engage with the nebulous boundary between performance and daily life, a line increasingly destabilized by the confusion inherent in our hallucinatory media landscape. We often find ourselves caught between the tension of digital entanglements and analogue experience. Find the Body is an opportunity to reflect on the contradictory confluence of reality and artifice—and how we present our most vulnerable selves on and offline.

2023–2024 Fellow Denisse Griselda Reyes has partnered with the Rural Women’s Association
() to raise funds for Palestinian women and their families. To learn more, visit the link in our bio.

The Rural Women’s Association is a grassroots organization founded in 2015, formed to organize educational, artistic, and cultural activities aimed at empowering children, youth, and women. Donations support crucial initiatives such as educational workshops, literacy classes, and psychological services that uplift Palestinian communities, and also aid in promoting sustainable income projects like traditional crafts and agriculture, empowering women to not only support their families but also to become leaders in their communities. These programs are vital in overcoming the challenges faced in rural areas, enhancing children’s wellbeing, and providing women with the tools they need for economic independence.
