Inspired by creation myths and scientific facts, Evolution combines the Paleontological history of whale evolution with the contemporary tale of a woman’s extraordinary transformation. Thus begins the story of Minnie, Pammy and Mother, a family coping with the mysterious changes brought about by an undetermined illness. Evolution is an unconventional show that uses the metaphor of whale evolution to tell the story of a woman who’s undergoing a seismic life change, and the efforts of her family, by turns comic, poetic and heart-breaking, to stop this change. As each struggles with the impending transformation, objects from the past and the memories they evoke act as catalysts for the characters in this solo show that asks the question, “How should we respond to change?” The inevitable nature of transformation, the seduction of memory and the power of family loyalty collide in this highly theatrical piece enhanced by the evocative music of award-winning composer Marc Mellits. In 2010, we were elated to bring on board a stellar creative team of NY theater professionals, including director Michele Chivu and designers Jim Findlay, Thomas Dunn, Will Pickens, and Anna Alisa Belous and Production Manager Alex Mark. The show has been in development over the last few years and now, with your help, will receive its NYC premiere in April of 2012! Our show is one of three projects chosen to be a part of the prestigious Cherry Lane Mentor Project and will subsequently be produced by 59 E 59th Street Theatres in late April 2012.
