New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF)

New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) NYAFF 25th Edition | July 10-26, 2026 Indiewire says, "the New York Asian Film Festival .. NYAFF brings Asia to New York in an immersive two weeks.

has swiftly become one of the most consistently exciting fests on the planet. Arguably the world’s best-curated program of new and classic Asian cinema, the annual showcase has made itself an increasingly essential institution by introducing American audiences to little-seen masterpieces like Park Hoon-jung’s “New World,” Derek Kwok and Clement Cheng’s “Gallants,” and Li Yu’s “Buddha Mountain” (to name three random classics from a list of dozens)...But it’s not the quality control or the comprehensiveness that makes NYAFF such an indispensable event, it’s that they deliver both of those things with style..." The New York Asian Film Festival is North America’s leading festival of popular Asian cinema, and one of the top, most anticipated, critically acclaimed events in New York City, and followed by industry insiders. An energy-filled event designed to bring new perspectives, experiences, ways of thinking and seeing that provoke thought, bring wonder, and new visions to our audience. The festival presents the roughest, sharpest, and smoothest of today’s cutting-edge Asian film scene to sold out audiences every summer. "Best Film Festival NYC," Village Voice Diamond Anniversary issue. "North America's biggest festival of popular Asian Cinema" - Film Business Asia
"The top tier of New York's film festivals" - The New York Times
"A pop culture institution unto itself" - Indiewire

Filipiñana opens August 28 at New York City’s historic Film Forum. Fresh off winning the prestigious World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, its run at NYC’s premier independent cinema house is a major milestone, showcasing Filipino narratives on the global stage.

Directed by Rafael Manuel as a feature-length expansion of his 2020 Silver Bear-winning short, this stylized satire exposes deep post-colonial class divisions. The story follows 17-year-old golf course “tee-girl” Isabel (played by Jorrybell Agoto) as she uncovers a sinister history hiding beneath an elite Manila country club. The brilliant ensemble cast includes Carmen Castellanos, Teroy Guzman, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Isabel Sicat, and Nour Houshmand.

Following its acclaimed Sundance premiere and a European debut at the Berlinale, Filipiñana continues its global festival run, including a spot at the Melbourne International Film Festival this August. While there are no scheduled Philippine theatrical releases yet, we are highly hoping for a local screening soon so the Filipino audience can experience this masterpiece on the big screen!

International superstar Maggie Cheung (IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE) embodies tragic screen siren Ruan Lingyu, known as the “Greta Garbo of China,” in this unconventional biopic by Hong Kong New Wave master Stanley Kwan (ROUGE). Kwan and Cheung paint a kaleidoscopic yet intimate portrait of the ill-fated actress, deftly blending lush period drama, archival footage, and metatextual documentary sequences of Cheung reflecting on Ruan’s legacy.

Digitally restored in 4K resolution in Bologna, Italy by L’Immagine Ritrovata. Endorsed by the director, Stanley Kwan.
