Seventeen months ago, Chris and Brittany Johnson’s lives changed irrevocably when the former NFL running back received an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis in May 2025 at just 39 years old.

Brittany, 39, has become Chris’ full-time, primary caregiver, and she tells PEOPLE that she truly feels “there was no one else better fit for the job.”
