It was just about ten years ago that I stood in Allan Holdsworth’s home studio in San Diego. The two years I spent working with him were bittersweet. By 2017, he was gone.
When you intersect with one of your greatest heroes, it isn’t always what you expect. There are moments of awe. Moments of friction. Moments that quietly change you forever.
I’m now working on a short story called "Earthbound" — a deeper reflection on my time with Allan, the music, and the man behind the myth. From my perspective.

For me, Allan will always be the most innovative guitarist of his time. I can’t hear the first few bars of this short video without thinking how lucky we were to have had him walk this earth. In just 4 bars, Allan tells you everything you need to know about the depth of his playing.
