Set design for the new production: A 1930's street leading from the Plaza de Toros to a cemetery in Madrid. A cafe and the Herald Tribune office are in the foreground. Everything beyond the horizontal in the middle will be a backdrop.

THIS PAGE is to help get a full production going of Webster Young's "MEN WITHOUT WOMEN: BANAL STORY" based on Hemingway's short story. Its four main arias were performed in concert in New York in 2003 and the opera was called "Madrid" then. A newly revised orchestra score has just been completed and recordings will be available here, along with the recordings with piano of the arias done in 2003 by SHARON MAXWELL (picture below), EFREN PUIG, and GARY RAMSEY. All producer's information and materials will be posted here including the libretto and set design concept.
