Please join us on July 4th as we celebrate our nation's semiquincentennial in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York's American Wing!

Composer David Lang researched 192 of the world’s national anthems and found a common theme: that freedom is fragile - it is to be both celebrated and protected. Lang weaved phrases from each one of these anthems into his powerful 2014 choral composition, the national anthems.

Join us tomorrow at 2, 4, and 6pm for performances of the national anthems featuring the five-time Grammy-nominated Clarion Choir alongside Grammy winners and 2022-24 MetLiveArts Quartet in Residence Catalyst Quartet in the American Wing’s light-filled Charles Engelhard Court.

These performances are part of the Met's programming to mark America's 250th anniversary and are free with museum admission. The performances are also part of Carnegie Hall's Festival United in Sound: America at 250.

Hailed by The New York Times at its Carnegie Hall debut as “invariably energetic and finely burnished… playing with earthy vigor,” the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst Quartet was founded by the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Organization in 2010. The ensemble (Karla Donehew Perez, violin; Abi Fayette, violin; Paul Laraia, viola; and Karlos Rodriguez, cello) believes in the unity that can be achieved through music and imagine their programs and projects with this in mind, redefining and reimagining the classical music experience.
