Sting is reportedly being sued by his former Police cofounders and bandmates, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, over lost royalties for the band's biggest hit, "Every Breath You Take."
The suit has been brewing for a long time, a source told 'The Sun.'
"Lawyers tried repeatedly to reach an out-of-court settlement but hit a stalemate," said the source. "Andy and Stewart decided there was no alternative than court, so [they] pressed the button. They say they are owed millions in lost royalties."
Sting is rumored to earn over $700,000 per year in royalties just from the "Every Breath You Take" single. He is listed as the sole composer and author of the song.
Summers and Copeland have often recalled over the years how the song was nearly cut from the 'Synchronicity' album because the band could not agree to an arrangement until late in the recording process.
