An amazing day working with the “Summer Yard Crew”, Sohini, Caroline, and Pua at NYU’s Tandon At The (Brooklyn Navy) Yard . From June through August I’m working with this team, all from NYU’s Integrated Design and Media Undergraduate program , on migrating the VR portion of my wwwunderkammer project to more sustainable systems + developing new XR and physical expansions of the project through the speculative LLM C.A.S.S.A.N.D.R.A. (Compassionate and Altruistic Semi-Sentient Assistant and Negotiator of Dreams, Rationality, and Aspiration). Stay tuned for more details on all of the aspects (AI, VR, sculpture, etc...) plus supporters of this project...

And TODAY was something special as we focused on the very hardware used to access the wwwunderkammer. Disassembling my old VR and MR headsets, we began to think *magically* about new form factors for XR headsets. Taking into account that plants can be modified to conduct electricity, (scientists have even developed techniques to integrate electronic components into plants, like roses, to create a system that can both conduct and store electricity, and additionally, some plants naturally generate electrical signals in response to touch or stress), we began creating speculative VR headset models. With planned obsolescence as the rule not the exception, what biodegradable materials can we use for our tech? And is there a way of escaping the homogeneous aesthetics of our hardware? This is just day one of this endeavor, but I never underestimate the importance of creative play 🌺🥽🌿✨

On our morning walk, Cleveland and I found a $10 bill on the street, which is auspicious since today marks 10 years since we got hitched at Studio Cloud 4 Art Space in Bologna, Italy!! 🎉 🥂

Thank you to dear friend & amazing artist Stefano W. Pasquini who organized the event for us and to Riccardo Lolli, performance artist and musician extraordinaire, who married us from the “Book of Arte & Disegno”. To complete our nuptials we spoke in broken Italian using Google translate, donned super”heroine” capes and f***y packs and then Ricardo played a fun little piano tune, “We’re All Going to Die” to end our marriage ceremony!

Embracing the absurd from the beginning, 10 years in together I love that everyday Cleveland and I find some weird thing in the world to laugh about and celebrate 🖤🕊️❤️‍🔥

I dig it. Spending the weekend organizing my new studio and rediscovering my 30 year archive of media art 🎉

Happy Father’s Day to the man I’ve always got on speed dial who I love dearly: Daddio, Murphy G, “big Murph”, (or Smurfy Murphy, but only I can call him that:) and to all the great Dad’s in this world 🗺️

Nancy Sinatra singing to her dad in 1977 (around the time this pic was taken)
“There’s a man who always stood right by me
Tall and proud and good when times were bad
Too much heart, is the only fault that I see
This song’s not for you folks
It’s for my dad” - NS

The NY LASER event yesterday was a blast! 💥

Maximum gratitude to Ellen K. Levy and Patricia Olynyk for hosting presentations by Angela Ferraiolo, Barry Holden and me (along with a virtual presentation by Eric He during my portion).

The house was packed, and I was thoroughly impressed by the audiences’ engagement (including many dear friends) during the Q & A!
