Congratulations to WAM tenor Taylor Comstock for the glowing reviews he received for his performance in Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” at Winter Opera Saint Louis. According to Chuck Lavazzi (“St. Louis Arts Scene”), Comstock “was a credibly youthful and impetuous Roméo, with a heroic voice and powerful high notes.” In addition, Steve Callahan writes in “Broadway World,” Comstock’s Roméo “shows a sweet, pure tenor voice that grows in power as he rises into those higher notes. And as the passions intensify, Comstock’s vocal power grows even more impressive...and conveys intense passions. In the final scene, after finding that his love is “dead,” his grief and torment as he chooses to take poison are heartbreaking.” Finally, Gerry Kowarski (HEC) notes that “Comstock…, in addition to singing beautifully, ...projected youthfulness and deep feelings in (his) portrayal.”
