Preliminary concept sketch of Harvey Milk for gay pride playing cards.

Doing a little pro bono work and got lucky to have first pick and clearly here I asked to make Harvey Milk to be dubbed the king of hearts for the deck. Always an ally for my LBGTQ homies. can’t wait to see what the artists make for the deck.

Young Woman On Bus Study

For many mornings on my route to work I see this young woman on the bus. Often I draw all sorts of folks I see on route and always ask for consent.

This young woman always looks out the window with a look that intrigues me... “what is she looking for?” Weeks ago I nodded to my sketchbook for permission to draw her . She simply nodded back with a yes then returned to daily gaze looking out the bus window. Perhaps she seeks an epiphany - “when time stops and space opens”

Who knows what her ethnicity is and perhaps all ethnicities. I will say she is very Mona Lisa-like. Whatever she looks for I hope she finds it and it serves her aliveness.

Been tinkering with this drawing for over a month.

I care not to know her - she represents to me all our mysterious longings

The face of liberty

Was looking at a photo of the Statue of Liberty and found myself enchanted with the expression on her face. When ever I thought of this statue I would picture her crown, robe, and the raising of the torch but paused to look deeper at her face... an expression of determination and not to be pushed around. I stripped away everything simply to draw just her face. I want the message at her feet to feel true. I want to see this country I live in embracing all colors, genders, and religions giving everyone a fair shake. I still believe liberty is possible and not just an idea and will support that possible reality in all the ways I can and seek others on the same mission.

Ok America let’s show we can prove democracy can work with us and for us. Let’s prove in numbers no hackers or shady rigging can stop our votes. -
I’m gonna do my very best to draw like the wind creating reminder images like this with the hopes to get people to vote this November 6, 2018 midterm election. Maybe I’ll even make some light hearted pieces. I can’t stress from my personal perspective how much is riding on this election for the sake of our health, dignity, equality and the future for all life possibly as we know it. -
This particular drawing comes from personally feeling like our country has slipped into a frightening darkness and disorienting mist- yet we all posses a light and a vision to cut through it all... being real & really determined.
