FunikiJam was launched in 1999 to provide music-related education for kids. Daily “classes” – they’re really more like performances, with the kids in starring roles – are offered in various locations in New York City. The classes are interactive and fun and incorporate a variety or world cultures through the use of such instruments as drums and maracas. The idea is to spark little ones’ interest i
n music and nurture those who have already shown an aptitude. Classes are offered for newborns on up to around eight years old. This isn’t a day care center, however - a parent or other caregiver must accompany children. FunikiJam’s unique concept took off quickly in Nashville and is now delighting New York City. In addition to music classes, camps, and parties, FunikiJam performances are held at such lofty venues as the Ryman Auditorium.
