I remember the future.

Paradise Garage the summer of ’83 when New Order debuted “Confusion” live, fresh out of the studio with Arthur Baker.

A very young Madonna performing on the rooftop of Danceteria.

The birth of Nocturnal Transmission on KJHK at Kansas University.

Dancing to goth, punk, and funk records at the Batcave and The Wag Club in London fall of ’83.

Beastie Boys live at the Cat Club in ’85.

Monthly pilgrimages to Chicago in the late’80s into the ’90s.

Hanging at the Wax Trax! offices.
Losing myself at the Smart Bar, Medusa, and Shelter only to find myself buying records from a teenaged Derek Carter at Imports etc.

I remember the future.

The advent of house music and techno from Chicago, Detroit, and New York to Manchester, Sheffield, and London.

David Morales playing Soul II Soul-Keep On Moving at the Red Zone in ’89.

Disco 2000 at The Limelight. N.A.S.A. and Sputnik raves.

Tony Humphries at Zanzibar playing records in their entirety without mixing a beat and driving his audience to cheers and to tears after each full-length gem.

Junior Vasquez at Sound Factory.

Sunday afternoons at Body and Soul with Francois K, Joe Claussell, and Danny Krivit. Danny Tenaglia at Twilo.

I remember the future.

Triangulating with Mixmaster Morris at raves and chillout rooms throughout the 90’s.

Drum & Bass in Rio de Janeiro, downtempo in Miami, Bossa Nova in Central Park, and deep house in Tel Aviv.

Goose bumps when iconic BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel dug out the 7” of Joy Division-Love Will Tear Us Apart at Sonar in Barcelona in 2000.

The jazz and funk infused grooves of the Giant Step parties.

Getting deeper with Ben Watt, Peter Kruder, Richard Dormeister, Rainer Truby, Christian Prommer, and Roland Appel.

Francois K effortlessly transcending the artificial constraints of genre and demographics Monday nights at Deep Space at Cielo.

I remember the future

“Hey Ray…I used to listen to you religiously during the Nocturnal Transmission days back in Lawrence. You’re the reason I got into electronic music. (I'm not a musician, just a huge fan)”

In Issue 24 of Blitzed Magazine, Visage and Ultravox synth wizard Billy Currie chats to Blitzed about recording and touring with Gary Numan, the genesis of the track that would go on to become the smash hit 'Fade to Grey' for Visage, his solo work, and the breaking up in 1986 and subsequent making up in 2008 of Ultravox. This is part two of a two-part interview with the man whose synth solo's defined the electro 80s.🎹
