Should a protagonist always actively pursue a goal? That question, among others, emerged from tonight's readings at the HP21 workshop. Jerome Arthur John, Anthony Key and Charles White presented scenes that were expertly handled by actors Patrice Battey-Simon, Demetrius Kee and William Miranda. Kudos to the group for the great work and good time!

Can a character's internal conflict (reflected in a monologue) sustain an entire scene? That was one of the questions that arose in tonight's HP21 workshop. J. Should a musical always begin with an "I want" song? That question emerged at tonight's first HP21 meeting of the 2026-27 season. J. Marshall Evans, Jerome Arthur John and Charles White had scenes read by actors Patrice Battey-Simon, Laura Bowman, Chauncey Gilbert, Maria Gonzalez, Gaynelle Jasper, Demetrius Kee and Ryan Sett. How does a narrator show, rather than tell, a story on stage? Laura Bowman, J. Marshall Evans and Charles White brought scenes that generated that question and others at tonight's HP21 workshop. Actors Patrice Battey-Simon, Renée Connell, Chauncey Gilbert, Gaynelle Jasper and Stephanie Stephens-Bowen did justice to the scenes and to the discussions.
