Gyeong-In (京人) means a person of Seoul. In this work, Seoul is presented as the condition of contemporary human existence — a place of sensation. Pushed to move faster, accumulate more, reach higher, people desire without end. Yet what they meet at that end is not fulfillment, but lack and emptiness. This work follows how a society of relentless acceleration dismantles the body’s balance and twists the rhythm of its own movement.

This year, Jacob’s Pillow will present Shamel Pitts with the Jacob’s Pillow Men Dancers Award, granted every two years to a choreographer of any gender who creates an innovative a work danced by men dancers. The award is intended to honor the spirit of Jacob’s Pillow founder Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers, and is given to choreographers of exceptional vision and achievement in this category. Congratulations Shamel!

sweat variant’s ‘my tongue is a blade’ makes its NYC debut on Governors Island June 19th and 20th from 6 to 9pm.

This durational performance practice first premiered at IMMA in Ireland and has been performed at Art Basel Qatar and PS21’s The Dark Festival. This is the first time the work will be performed outdoors. Audience members can come and go as they please during the show.

‘Touch of RED’ by Shamel Pitts | TRIBE will open the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival this Summer from June 24-28th at the Doris Duke Theatre. Shamel will be joined by performer Channce Williams for this run.

‘Touch of RED’ is a multidisciplinary performance duet inspired from the rapid-fire footwork of boxing, the African-American jazz dance style Lindy Hop, Gaga movement language and Nightlife culture.

Bold. Boiled. Blood.🩸

Wednesday, June 24th at 8pm
Thursday, June 25th at 8pm
Friday, June 26th at 2:30pm
Saturday, June 27th at 8pm
Sunday, June 28th at 2:30pm

The Thursday evening performance will also be livestreamed for the public via Jacob’s Pillow for free (June 25th at 8pm) if you’re unable to make it in person.
