With a spotlight on NPR and various venues of note, Falsa brings to life the resonant threads of 14th-century Sufi music through contemporary arrangements. Falsa is a transcendent Sufi music ensemble blending Qawwali vocals, Carnatic violin, Hindustani tabla, World-infused bass, harmonium, and dynamic percussion. Rooted in the mystical traditions of Sufism, our music evokes deep longing, spiritual surrender, and profound connection. Led by Umer Piracha, whose return to Pakistan after a decade apart inspired the band’s name, Falsa creates immersive performances that merge classical South Asian traditions with contemporary improvisation and transcultural jazz. Falsa has performed at Joe’s Pub, Little Island, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Symphony Space, and more. Join us in normalizing the transcendent musical experience.
