Baryshnikov referred to her as “one of the distinguished and fine ballet pedagogues in America”. Gabriela Taub Darvash - known to all her students as MADAME Darvash. Those students crossed many generations and included Donna, Wendy and Kerri, and many years later, the students of ESOTA. Passing the legacy. We just learned that Madame passed on December 30th. We share condolences with all she touched. BRAVA Madame Darvash! It was an honor and a privilege. 🩰💐

Representation matters. And ballerina Michaela Mabinty DePrince represented so many things, so beautifully, so authentically, so proudly. Powerful perfection on the dance floor. Compassionate kindness in her humanitarian efforts. Regal resilience in her rise from orphan to prima ballerina. Comfortably confident beauty with vitiligo. Unapologetic uniqueness in her style. Conscious commitment to her craft. She represented everything young dancers strive to be. Her loss at age 29 is devastating for the dance world, for black ballerinas, for brown ballerinas, for all the students who learn and train with her as an example. May Michaela fly with the angels as gracefully and effortlessly as she twirled on the stage. The staff and students of ESOTA thank you for sharing your great gift.
