Since Gilded Age Al stories seem so popular I thought I would give some a try. Please be aware this is a not a book or real author and all characters are fictional. I am sure some images or story lines will need improvement, but just enjoy it as one would a vintage glass of champagne. I don’t mind feed, constructive criticism or comments, just please be polite as if you were in a Gilded Age drawing room.

A rare view of the north side wall at 660 Fifth Avenue & West 52nd. Street. When the famous chateau style mansion of William K. Vanderbilt & his wife Alva was built circa 1882 by architect, Richard Morris Hunt, the rest of the block north was occupied by older brownstone mansions. This side wall that also shows the grand staircase windows was facing the nearest one. There was a small alley that let in some light for the new Vanderbilt mansion. In the early 1900’s when William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. two of the brownstones were acquired and they were demolished for a new house to be constructed in similar style to his father’s home. The first colored image shows just after the demolition of the brownstones and before the new house erected. Please see other photos of the adjoining brownstones and the new mansion of William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. I also included another rear view of the corner mansion from West 52nd. Street that shows the west wall and the dining room windows. The corner original mansion was demolished circa 1926 and the newer mansion of William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. was demolished shortly after.
