The beginning of the “Mr. Limpy” saga.
Throwback to Jory performing at the WatzHott Show in 2009, This is where the Mr. Limpy saga began.
But listen to that crowd. The screams, the chants, the reaction.
Sometimes we talk as though Guyanese only recently started showing up for and getting excited about our own artistes. That simply isn’t true. This was a Guyanese-only show, and the crowd was fully engaged with a Guyanese artiste on that stage.
Guyanese have always been reactive and appreciative of our local talent when the music connects with them.
And long before the conversations we’re having today about creating more spaces for Guyanese artistes, Watzhott was already providing that platform, giving artistes an opportunity to perform, build their audience and showcase their talent and still is.
Despite differences over the years, Mr. Ian Johnson continues to use WatzHott as a voice for Guyanese artistes, highlighting their work and, just as importantly, helping to keep a record of the timeline of their contributions to Guyanese music.
And Jory’s place in that timeline shouldn’t be forgotten. He has been one of Guyana’s most lyrical talents and was already making noise from as far back as 2004. He was on television, on radio and active on the live performance circuit. At one point, Jory was the hottest thing other than sliced bread.
WatzHott continues to wish him the best, and hopefully one day we see him make his way back to the music scene.
In the meantime, Jory’s music, along with music from many other Guyanese artistes, continues to play 24/7 on WatzHott Radio, including, yes, the famous “Mr. Limpy” diss track.
WatzHott Radio is an online platform fully funded by Ian Johnson and continues to provide a home for Guyanese music.
That support also extends to the US through the WatzHott Show on Caribbean Power Jam Radio every Friday from 6-8 PM with Mr. Dynamix and Selector Face (Stereo Sonic)
The platform was there then. It’s still here now. 🇬🇾🎶
Tune in to WatzHott Radio and have a listen.
