HANDMADE in Giffnock
I've been a busy bee creating new thistle shawl/scarf pins, made from silver plated copper wire and adorned with a silver plated, zinc alloy thistle. I've displayed it on an AI woollen background to give you an idea of how it would look against your favourite shawl or scarf. For attaching to thicker fabric and coats, i supply a 10cm stainless steel pin with stopper. Delighted with the result!

I walked into Goodwill in Everett, WA today with a strong urge to waltz myself directly to the furniture section…. And I instantly discovered why: this baby. $30 bucks and entirely flawless 😍 so I bought it. Wish me luck for when my husband gets home… he said no more furniture until we finish unpacking our new place but I just needed the right motivation lol!

Sometimes the strangest things on a house are the ones nobody notices until years later. This tiny object sticking out of the wall has sparked dozens of theories, ranging from completely ordinary to wildly imaginative. The real answer might be surprisingly simple—or surprisingly important. Looking at the photo, what's your guess?

Fitting for a dish top candle stand: English brass candlestick and air twist stem wine glass (both circa 1760) plus a clay pipe and a horn tobacco/snuff box resting on a leather bound book.

Squirrels have eaten through the wood in my window sill and in one afternoon ate a hole in my trash can lid from the city. How do I keep them away for good?

This drives me insane. I always struggle to get paint to stick to silicone!

Some people use shellac primer, but it still doesn’t last. Others run a bead of decorators' caulk over the top and paint that instead.

Personally, I think the only proper fix is to cut the silicone out and start again.

Anyone found a solution that actually lasts?

Looking for ideas for updating this stairwell that leads to our basement. I personally do not like the wallpaper but every time we open the door to have a guest downstairs they always stop and say “oh wow I really like this”. Not sure if that’s something they say out of shock 😂 or if they really do. We need to replace the light for sure and I’m wondering if a color drench would work over the wallpaper and trim. I had to remove some other wallpaper two years ago that was in our basement and it had not been properly installed so there was a lot of damage to the walls, so I’m thinking that removing the wallpaper isn’t an option for us right now. I’m also not sure about the shelf above the stairs. Should I try to remove it or is there something that could go on it? The flat wall space above it is only about 12 inches. The wallpapered area leads down to a door that is painted black like the trim. I’m also wondering how I should carry the design through all the way to that space. and just to add the rest of the basement is painted in SW accessible beige with pure white trim. there are some SW dovetail cabinets downstairs as well.

Should I paint my main entrance door black or leave it white? (The stair treads and handrail in the entrance are also black). I wasn’t sure because it’s so close to the coat closet door, which will stay white. If so, do I also paint the window trim and door trim?
