In the United States, the surest path to wealth is owning a small business.

Many, if not most, small business entrepreneurs entered the workforce as tradesmen such as plumbers, auto-repairmen, horticulturalists, HVAC, framers, etc who, after working for someone else to hone and perfect their skills, leave to start their own businesses.

Towards that end, Moore County Schools has a robust traditional VoTech program, but we have done a poor job telling our community about our program. We need to reach out to local businesses to tell them about our VoTech programs and invite them to participate in them as either a sponsor or one who gives internships to our students and hires them upon graduation.

MCS also needs to consider something like Harnett County's SHED event.

We also need to let our young people know that entering the workforce as a skilled craftsman is equally honorable as going to college or entering in the military.

As educators, Moore County Schools needs to understand that whether a student plans on Enrolling in college, Enlisting in the military, or Entering the workforce, our job is to ensure our students enter each as prepared as possible.
