36x25
Oil on canvas
A tribute to every child of Belize — Creole, Garifuna, Mestizo, Maya, East Indian, Chinese, Mennonite — all of us stitched together on one small patch of land.
This painting honors the innocence, the struggle, and the bright-eyed hope that generations of Belizean kids carry on their walk to school. Our cultures don’t divide us… they build us. They make us. They color our story.

This week on The Artist’s Palette 🎨

Marina Abramović reminds us that art doesn’t always shout — sometimes it stares back.

Her work asks a quiet but uncomfortable question:
What happens when we are fully seen — and allow ourselves to truly see another?

This isn’t entertainment.
It’s endurance.
It’s connection.
It’s art as truth.

One of the world’s richest and most advanced ancient civilizations, the Maya influence still lives on today.
You see it in the ruins.
You feel it in the clothing.
You hear it in the music and dance.

From Central America to the present moment, Maya culture continues to shape art, identity, and storytelling.
That’s why it’s on this week’s palette.

The artwork challenges what we think art is worth, who decides that value, and how belief, context, and institutions can transform an everyday object into a cultural moment. The banana can be replaced — the concept cannot.

What collectors paid for wasn’t fruit and duct tape.
They paid for the idea, the provocation, and the conversation it created.

That’s how Comedian became priceless.

Did you know? 🍌
Comedian didn’t sell for millions because of the banana.

It sold because of the idea.

This week on The Artist’s Palette we’re spotlighting the Studio Museum in Harlem — one of the most vital cultural institutions in New York City.

After nearly seven years of transformation, the museum has reopened in a stunning new space dedicated to artists of African descent, community, and the ever-evolving story of Harlem. From powerful exhibitions to education, dialogue, and joy — this is a place that doesn’t just show art, it moves it.

If you’re in NYC, this is not optional.
If you’re not, put it on your list.

Honoring , who for over 20 years transformed discarded Metropolitan Transportation Authority MetroCards into layered works of art—turning everyday transit into memory and history. With MetroCards now discontinued, it feels right to pause and honor that beauty, while also remembering Cecilia Giménez (94), whose unintentionally iconic restoration sparked a global conversation about imperfection, authorship, and the humanity behind art.
