Today I was lucky enough to receive the invitation to assist at the opening reception of the new exhibition at Lehmann Maupin Art Gallery.
The exhibition, ”McArthur Binion, Modern:Ancient:Brown” is being displayed on the first floor of the premises from September 9 through October 23, 2021 at the New York location in Chelsea.
The space is a marvelous corner building with massive glass walls, an elevator for easier access to the other floors and lots of both natural and warm gallery lights. The crowd assisting the opening was fun and youthful, the space got full of people of all ages and the excitement was very palpable.
The pieces in exhibition on the first floor were a collection of works made in huge canvases of what seems to be photocopies on paper. A beautiful piece of work that puts in consonance both registers of old birth certificates with loud and fun colors in geometric shapes. This mix is repeated several times across the canvas making a pattern out of it. It is a very interesting game of repetition and careful selection of colors.
There was plenty to see since they have a second floor with more pieces and a third and fourth floor where resides another art gallery. While I didn’t ask for details of this second institution, I did enjoy the show that is on display on the upper levels and that was also accessible for the visitors.
Although my words may not make justice to the beauty of all these artworks, these are available to visit and be admired in their magnificence, size and context and I invite you to do so. Maybe you will feel enlightened by one of them and decide to get it for your collection!
Thank you so much to my dear friend for inviting me to be a part of this opening.
