We’re opening our 153rd season on November 10th in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall for a night of Fauré, Beethoven, Brahms, and Jasmine Barnes!
Jasmine Barnes’s “Portraits: Douglass and Tubman” is a stirring choral-orchestral song cycle setting the words of two towering abolitionists in a work of uplift and defiance.
Jasmine is an Emmy Award-winning composer and acclaimed vocalist who has performed and had her music performed worldwide. The twice-over graduate from Morgan State University is a recent recipient of Opera America’s Discovery Opera Grant for women composers, among two other grants from Opera America for her new opera “She Who Dared.” She has been commissioned by numerous organizations such as the NY Philharmonic, American Composers Forum, and Juilliard Pre-College, the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Carnegie Hall, Washington National Opera, and the Kennedy Center, among others.
