Skatebording 🛹 blue corn flower dyed homemade tortillas, blue cheese, blue carrots and blueberries 🫐🧀🥕

Finishing off this series with one of the newest Olympic sports: skateboarding! I made this tortilla into a skateboard with blue cheese wheels. It tasted better than it looks tbh.

Fencing 🤺 blackberries, plum, melon and cantaloupe 🍈 🖤

En garde! Shout out to .eth for collecting this print on the opening day of the exhibit in Paris. This piece had several iterations before I went finally for this look. It was at first with a banana for an epee but it just didn’t hit quite the way the skewered fruit did. Definitely enjoyed eating all the blackberries while experimenting for the final photo.

Tennis 🎾 apple, pie dough and cinnamon 🍎🥧

Two of my nephews are tennis stars - they even coach for their high school teams! But I never had any chance to play growing up. Part of the reason these pieces are all made of raw food instead of my normal prepared meals is as a statement that champions are made with hard work and dedication. These are all the materials available to make an apple pie - the apple, the pie dough and the cinnamon. But without someone taking the time to bake them, they’ll remain materials. So let them cook. And let them eat pie!

I was obsessed with swimming when I was younger but I had not actually learned how until college. But by the time I graduated, I trained so hard I became a lifeguard. One of my favorite Olympics memories was watching Ian Thorpe win in his yellow swim cap and swimsuit. It was why I referenced it in this photo.

Trace de Penne 🍝🛞

This was a collaboration years in the making. I met during the pandemic - we would stay up until dawn talking about art on clubhouse rooms. A year later I met him in person in LA. I went back the next year to celebrate him surviving breaking his neck in 1985. And I went back again this year during the 11th year mark of me surviving my shooting. This time to collaborate on our art piece we were going to display in Paris together!

Tommy paints with the wheels of his wheelchair and his tire marks are as if they were his brush strokes. I was inspired by that and created my own marks with penne pasta. We printed it on canvas and he then painted on top of it with his wheelchair. It felt so natural and we had a blast doing it even though we made it during the warmest day of the hottest month of the year.

When I was asked to make a new series based on the Olympic spirit I chose some of my favorite sports and thought about what makes athletes into champions. A good diet and tons of training obviously! While I can’t train to be wrestling champ in a few months, I was able to eat like one. I made cauliflower rice out of the mask materials and it was pretty good!

Hey Eastern MA, I’m in a group show!

Good Luck Has Arrived 2023 will be exhibited at the from July 13 until August 10 as part of the Salon Show 2024. This is an artist proof and certified archival 1:1 print available for sale and half the proceeds will go to the art center!

The show is curated by and I’m sure with help and support from - the two coolest and nicest artists I know.

I grew up in Boston, so this will be a chance for some of my family members who have never seen my art in a gallery setting to experience it in such a cool venue! The Essex Art Center is going to kick off with a ¡Fiesta en la calle! block party this Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. I’ll be flying in from LA (where I’m currently working on new artwork). I hope to see some of you there!

Sadly I can’t stay too long in Boston because I have an art show opening in Paris at the end of the month. More details on that show to come!
