Artfizz loves 's amazing group show!

"More than the sum" brings together artists from across the Tiger Strikes Asteroid network that are using repetition as a generative process for creating new connections and relationships.

This show is a visual introduction to the spirit and structure of TSA. We seek to build an ethos of cooperative achievement in the visual arts, creating the physical and emotional space for artists to show their work and exchange ideas on their own terms.Through a model of horizontal, rather than vertical growth, we are trying to rethink the way an arts institution can work, providing more space and opportunities rather than consolidating time and resources into a single space or vision.

Artfizz Loves Ellie Kayu Ng and Timon YC I's exhibition Apartment 3A, Brooklyn, NY

"Ellie and Timon are from Hong Kong and living together as a couple. They often talk about how to find the right balance to acquire a sense of comfort. In this exhibition, the paintings were inspired by their apartment in Brooklyn, where they feel comfortable the most."

In Insertions into Ideological Circuits: Coca-Cola Project, Cildo Meireles modified reusable glass Coca-Cola bottles, adding critical political statements, or instructions for turning the bottle into a Molotov cocktail, before returning them to be reused. The result was a system for the "exchange of information that did not depend on any kind of centralized control".

Artfizz caught up with just before her new show opened to learn about some of the art she loves!

Tell us about artwork that changed the way you work.

The work of Sal Scapitta really taught me about the potential power of art in contemporary society -- art that is both deeply personal but attempts to ask questions about the world. I love his early wrapped paintings that helped to redefine what a painting could be.

What’s the last exhibition you loved?

Carmen Hermo () from the Brooklyn Museum walked me around the museum pre-pandemic, and we wandered through the Egyptian galleries where a finely carved knife was on display. The handle is covered with tiny images representing animals. It felt serendipitous thinking about the artisan or group of artisans who made these carvings thousands of years ago, and how the object survived time and distance to teach us about the past.

In 1973, artist Anita Steckel founded the Fight Censorship Group after local authorities attempted to shut down her solo show at the Rockland Community College, which featured erotic imagery including erect pen*ses. The group worked towards establishing the right of women artists to use the n**e male figure and sexual subject matter in their art.

Renowned installation artist Lita Albuquerque () recently shared with Artfizz the best piece of advice she's ever received:

"Always start in present moment. When you start a work of art, start where you are physically, mentally, spiritually."

Lita is an American installation, environmental artist, painter, and sculptor, who is often associated with the Light and Space and Land Art movements.
