One of the things I love most about music is what can happen when the right people come together — even for the very first time.

Last Saturday at Montclair Porch Fest, we did an easy-breezy one-hour set. This is my original "Be Kind" (which I wrote back in 2000) with an ensemble that had never played together before. No rehearsal. No run-through. Just six skilled and soulful musicians trusting each other and the music, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. (and of course, charts to read the songs) - We had a lovely time!

This was the very first song of the set, and the connection was immediate. And a special shoutout to Daniel, who spent his birthday behind the kit making this happen.

Montclair Porch Fest is one of those beautiful community events that remind you why live music out in the community matters.

Tomorrow is the day. We head into The Bunker to record 14 of my original songs, and I've been walking around all week with this quiet excitement about it.

The clip here has sound from rehearsal. Arrangements by Adrian Galante, with Keith Loftis on saxophones, Steve Einerson on piano, Neal Miner on bass, Joe Strasser on drums, and me about to come in on vocals. Adrian will also join us on clarinet, and Daniel Freedman on percussion.

Aaron Nevezie will be recording us. I couldn't ask for a better room or a better group of people to make this record with.

New music incoming, Revelers. Recording day is almost here — a full album, one day, with an extraordinary group of musicians I'll be telling you all about very soon. And that's not the only news. Just this Monday, a completely different project was recorded. A surprise project. The prep is done, the charts are ready, and I couldn't be more excited. Life is full of plot twists. So much to share... but not yet... soon... very soon.

When the piano hits just right and the whole room locks in… 🎶

Caught this moment from our set at Five Spot Jazz playing my brand new song written just days before the gig "We Belong Together" with the incredible Steve Sandberg on piano, Michael O'Brien on bass, and Daniel Glass on drums.

Nothing like a night in the East Village carrying on the tradition in this hot new venue picking up the torch of the iconic Five Spot of legend, where Monk and Coltrane once played.

I brought a bunch of new tunes to the gig… honestly, I can't remember how many. We got halfway through the stack — and the band read through these hot-off-the-press songs that I penned and they threw DOWN as if they were favorite standards. And that's how we roll! With love, sincerity, and a touch of swagger.
