Hello everyone; I believe this is the best way for me to introduce myself to anyone who going to read this article and hasn’t been exposed to any of my writing in the past. But I do want to stress to everyone that it is a lighthearted beginning for this article, which is mostly related to my last on travel safety where I wasn't so kind from the start.
The last article also which was also related to technology used in travel, explicitly that of which was used in the new 737 airplanes, will be my main reason for this one which will be logically written out for you and will point out potential flaws in the way we are developing future car technology. So please try to read the last article to understand fully my reasoning behind writing this one.
For some reason present technology engineers are willing to take a leap of faith, this was not the way engineers before the millennium approached their craft. In the circumstances of aircraft safety engineering we have a system in place CAST (Commercial Aviation Safety Team), which is well developed group which investigates all airplane crashes and then makes recommendations to the industry to prevent those circumstances from occurring again. In the case of automobile crashes the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) will investigate major car accidents where death is involved.
The NHTSA, back in 2013 proposed using V2V (vehicle-vehicle) communications technology to constantly broadcast radio signals which give its location, direction, speed, and even the number of people in the vehicle. https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/terence-p-jeffrey/nhtsa-may-mandate-new-cars-broadcast-location-direction-and-speed

At the time, it was thought to be a step towards making a pathway for all vehicles to become completely automated. Think of the safety benefits that would present; a computerized system that would control each vehicle's incremented movements. No need for a driver, no more accidents, you just go to your computer and enter all your information beforehand, be in the car at the assigned time and your taken to the destination.
Imagine that, then wake up to the facts; the automobile insurance companies would go out like candles on a birthday cake after being heavily blown on by a long winded celebrant (them losing money: be real, it's not happening), in addition most people are too spontaneous and don't want to be controlled (they want to go when they want to go), and the biggest problem involves the government having knowledge of everyone's movements (could be a violation of public privacy rights).
So, let's get back to reality; people are analog by nature, we are somewhat control freaks with opinions on everything, and most of us can only handle so much of the digital process. But there is a great savior in this idea letting some computerized control of our driving technology in terms of safety. Using a system like this in the proper ways can allow us to lessen the dangers involved in driving therefor saving lives. for instance with the use of GPS we can stop cars attempting to enter a highway going in the wrong direction before it passes the sign saying wrong way, we can make cars stop going in or in the opposite direction of a stopped school bus with the stop sign displayed, cars going throw a school zone can have their speeds limited to the desired amount, also cars could be rendered to a stop as soon as a light turns yellow, even before it enters an intersection.
There are so many more safety features available if such a system is engineered and implemented correctly, we may not be able to make driving as safe as flying but we can surely do a hell of lot better than we are doing now. So, my fellow engineers, let's not take leaps of faith that will end us up in the public's doghouse and use our ingenuity to make the world safer as we travel about!
