The Censorship of Dreams, directed by Creative Armenia x AGBU alum, Arthur Makaryan, has just completed its 13-show run at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club to critical acclaim.

“Magnetic…from the moment we entered the space, I felt transported to the future. I was haunted by this play. Not only because of the spectacular atmosphere…but the command to turn inwards. Nothing short of incredible.” — Niranjani Reddi, Theatre Beyond Broadway

“The four actors, the superb stagecraft, and the direction is so expert… that they make this puzzling universe seem more than real. A top pick for anyone who obsesses about AI and fears it as the stuff of end times. Your AI Fever Dream on Steroids. — Amy Munice, Picture This Post

The Censorship of Dreams is a story of love and ambition in a surveillance state, exploring the relationships between technology and poetry, individualist resistance and societal responsibility. To learn more, visit https://lamama.org/the-censorship-of-dreams/

Mikayel Ohanjanyan
“And... If there was no writing?”
curated by Mazdak Faiznia
Opening on September 26 at 6 p.m. at ASSAB ONE
27 September – 8 November, 2024

Assab One presents and hosts the large site-specific installation by Armenian artist Mikayel Ohanjanyan
Five basalt blocks of various sizes, wrapped in steel cables firmly anchor them to the ground vigorously, occupy the entire exhibition space with great intensity. The result of the artist’s latest research, the work starts from a reflection on the theme of connections, exploring their different physical or metaphysical manifestations: interpersonal bonds, those with nature and the universe, with our inner and outer worlds.
On the surfaces of the stone elements some lead-cast shards repeatedly bear a phrase: “And... If there was no writing?”.
Ohanjanyan draws from ancient poems and tales about the emergence of writing, highlighting its value in human existence and the creation of bonds by interweaving his research with the history of the place hosting the installation.
This project is supported by AGBU Arts and Fondazione Stefano Serapian.

An unforgettable evening at Carnegie Hall, New York City.

Earlier this month, AGBU Arts proudly returned to the iconic Weill Recital Hall with Musical Tapestry in Motion: A Celebration of Music, Dance & Poetry, a moving showcase of exceptional young Armenian artists whose journeys have been shaped by the AGBU Performing Arts Scholarship Program.

From classical music and ballet to poetry and contemporary performance, the evening celebrated the artistry, passion, and dedication of the next generation of Armenian talent. We are proud to support these remarkable artists as they continue to inspire audiences and carry Armenian artistic excellence forward.

Special thanks to our incredible performers and artistic team for making the evening so memorable.
