ANNOUNCING OVER 50+ ARTISTS FOR MOtiVE’S 2022 FOR THE ARTISTS! RESIDENCY PROGRAM

We are thrilled to finally announce all of the artists in this year’s program. It’s been amazing so far and we’re only in April! Check-out the artists on our website for their bios and websites, and follow them on social media.

MOtiVE Brooklyn goes beyond the usual residency. Our application is accessible and easy for artists to complete. We feel strongly in meeting with each artist who applies to discuss together their ideal residency including its structure, timeline and supportive services. These services could include production and dramaturgy consultations, mentorship, accountability, performance opportunities, writing labs, technical support and informal feedback sessions. We believe in giving agency to the artist in designing their own residency, allowing ideas to be realized according to the practices of the artist. We dream for our residency program to be inclusive— that’s why we are welcoming over 50+ artists for this year’s program launch!

Stay tuned for the 2023 application to open this fall season👯‍♀️👯

Last weekend at MOtiVE, Rysia Murphy of Arisohn + Murphy and Tess De Paula curated Day Marks, a pop-up exhibition.

The exhibition featured works from twelve contemporary artists that highlighted the concept - and relativity - of time. Many works were made during COVID when artists’ time was upended by their personal situations - the loss or pausing of work and opportunities, inability to access studio space and art supplies, and the existential grappling of what a global pandemic meant to each individual. More broadly, each artwork illustrated the unique way in which an artwork can mark and reflect time and each artist’s personal relationship to time.🌼

The gallery donated a portion of commissions to Women for Afghan Women.
