We wrapped up the 2026 rodeo season a few weeks ago at the ICA finals as well as the start of the 2027 Junior High rodeo season. With it being the year of the horse, we wanted to recognize one that is special to both of us, JL Red River. This horse out of the Jill Lane Quarter Horses stud Red helped both of us accomplish goals this season. Some of the highlights include: Intermountain Icebreaker 1st round winner (Clara), Idaho District 2 Barrel Racing Champion (Cora), Idaho state finals 1st place second round (Cora), National Junior High Finals Qualifier (Cora), Payette PRCA Junior rodeo champion (Clara), Caldwell Night Junior rodeo champion (Clara), 5th place overall ICA (Clara), 4th place average ICA finals. There were also a number of jackpot wins and high finishes in other events. At 17 years old, we appreciate and AniCell Biotech for helping keeping River running. We are very blessed to have such an incredible horse to carry both of us to our goals

What an incredible opportunity it has been this weekend. Being able to participate at the ICA Finals has been a wonderful experience. We put together another solid run, but finished outside the money Saturday night. Clara jumped from 7th to 4th to finish the season . Thank you to all the crew and sponsors who made this possible.

First go round of the ICA Finals is in the books. Unofficially, 3rd place with a 17.786. Clara got a little coaching from Cora during the run too! Second go round tomorrow night.

Open arena for barrel racers tonight in preparation for the finals. Hope to see you all there tomorrow and Saturday night. Pre-rodeo at 6:00. Performance starts at 7:00.

How many times have you qualified for the ICA Finals?
This is my second year competing in the ICA and second year qualifying for the finals

Tell us about the horse you’ll be running at the Finals
JL Red River “River”. He is a 17 year old AQHA that I bought 2 years ago off Facebook. I competed in my first open jackpot about 5 weeks after buying him and took second overall.

What was your favorite ICA rodeo of the 2026 season?
The Wild Weippe. They asked for anyone 10 and under to come and do a stick horse race. I won the stick horse race and then took second in the barrel racing

What was your greatest accomplishment or proudest moment of your 2026 rodeo season?
Winning a go round at the Intermountain Icebreaker, the Payette County Rodeo and the Caldwell Night Junior Rodeo

What is something you learned about yourself this rodeo season?
I learned to look for something good in every run and something to work on from every run. This has helped me keep improving and being more consistent

What are you most excited about heading into the ICA Finals?
Running in the Caldwell Night Rodeo arena

Do you have any special routines, superstitions, or must-do things before you make a run?
I say a prayer every time before I run

Who has been one of your biggest supporters this season?
My dad and sister Cora

What is one fun fact about you that people in the stands probably don’t know?
I’m only 10 years old and still in elementary school.

We made the trip to Burns Oregon last night. Even though the ground appeared good, River had a hard time keeping his footing around the first two barrels. Onto the next one

At the 2025 CNR Junior Rodeo, Clara hit the second barrel. Her time would’ve been a smoking 16.9, but the plus 5 placed her 4th overall. At the beginning of the year, she set a goal to win the buckle this year. Ty Hillman talked last week at the clinic about the difference between “product” and “process” goals. “Product” goals are what we typically think of with goal setting: we are going to win this rodeo, or have this time. While product goals are good, there are typically a lot of factors outside of our control that can prevent us from achieving the goal. “Process” goals are things we can control. Setting a goal to ride 4 days per week, making sure that we make the perfect circle around the barrel on slow work. While not realizing it, Clara had set process goals of improving her second barrel with River. The work she put in on focusing on that process goal, allowed her to win the product goal. What are some of the process goals you have to improve your riding?
