❤️🥁🎶📚Thanks so much to Queen Reesie, Guardians of the Flame Maroon Society for putting together such a great program! The first session of Congo Kids Drumming School was amazing. Andrew Wiseman introduced the kids to traditional African rhythms and Herreast Harrison provided the kids with a book, “We Shall Overcome” by Debbie Levy, from the to prepare for next week’s class with Wendi Moore-O’Neal, jaliyahconsulting.com
The public is invited to the end of program performance on Tuesday, October 16 5:00-7:00pm at the Night Out Against Crime event which also takes place at the museum. Stay tuned for details!

Congo Kids, a project of Positive Vibrations Foundation, is proud to announce Congo Kids Drumming School at the Donald Harrison Sr. Museum/Guardians Institute in partnership with Cherice Harrison-Nelson, Queen of Guardians of the Flame Maroon Society and Co-Founder of Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame.

Congo Kids Drumming School
Where: Donald Harrison Sr. Museum / Guardians Institute
1930 Independence, New Orleans, LA 70117
When: Saturdays - September 22, 29 - October 6,13, | Tuesday October 16, 5-7:00pm
Time: 3:00-4:30PM
Participants: Open to youth ages 5-10

Instructors: Big Chief Brian Nelson, Kerry Vessel, Wendi Moore-O'Neal, and Andrew Wiseman
Each drum instructor will prepare students to perform one selection. Instructors will play lead and students will
accompany. In addition to drumming lessons, the program includes a literacy component provided by
Herreast J. Harrison (Big Chief Donald Harrison, Sr. Program Director) and opportunities for students to
showcase their talent to their community.

*The program will culminate with a performance by the students and their instructors on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 5:00-7:00pm at the National Night Out Against Crime event. This event will be held at 1930 Independence Ave NOLA and is free and open to the public. More details on the event TBA.
