Christopher “DJ Spin” Villagran is an Algiers native who has been DJing for 36 years! The O. Perry Walker High School graduate describes his style as “Clean”! Spin has built a reputation as one of the most respected ORIGINAL DJs in New Orleans for his innovation and style. He has been a disc jockey since he was 16 years old. Inspired by the Grand Mixer D.S.T. (Grammy Performance with Herbie Hancock (Rock It), Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay and DJ Jazzy Jeff, he started DJing for local record labels at 18. Labels including Big Boy Records, Cash Money Records, and No Limit Records which showcased legendary artists including Mystikal, Fiend, Partners N Crime, B.G. Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Soulja Slim and many more. DJ Spin has produced with the best including Don and Fess of Full Pack Productions (South Coast Records). He has also worked with KLC of the Medicine Men (formerly Beats by the Pound) who have produced tracks for artists like Ludacris and David Banner. Since 2001, DJ Spin has been touring with Grammy Award winner Chris Thomas King helping to re-innovate the blues. In 2002, the iconic duo performed at Radio City Music Hall at Martin Scorsese’s Year Of The Blues Concert. In 2003, New Orleans’ KNOU Hot 104.5 FM selected DJ Spin as one of the featured DJs on the station’s live DJ mix show. He hosts “The Spin Cycle” weekly. Most recently, DJ Spin choreographed the music for the dance part of the Britney Spears’ Circus Tour. He opens regularly for the House of Blues and has been the resident DJ for the Masquerade nightclub (inside of Harrah’s) since 2008. DJ Spin is often requested by A-list artists who host shows and events in New Orleans including Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, Chris Thomas King, Currensy, Kem, Nas, Method Man and A-Trak. He has also been the choice for corporations including Pepsi Smash, State Farm, DJ Scratch Academy and MTV2. He is an electronic enthusiast who keeps his mentals in check using Taekwondo and walking while listening to music. MY MENTAL HEALTH TIP FOR MUSICIANS: Always take time for yourself!
