It has been a long break from painting. I’ve spent the last several months helping my daughter and SIL with their triplets along with remodeling a rental house. Just started this commission for a couple that purchased Frankenstein last year. It’s great to be back! More to come.

Process of a commission… Spent a ridiculous amount of time developing the prism effect at the end of the video. I really wanted lighting effects that would move and give a club feel, and also allow the art beneath it to be seen. I scoured the web and found a technique that I thought could be adapted to paint: Quantum mechanics to create a transparent holographic rainbow effect. All of the trial and error was time well spent (doesn’t always work out that way) because it turned out great and now I have a new technique to add to my tool belt. Stay tuned for the completed piece!

In 2017 my youngest daughter painted Joe Strummer, so when someone walked into the gallery asking for a Strummer commission I was stoked. About a week into the process, Joe Strummers niece walked in and said “hey that’s my uncle!” This painting is now in its forever home. Thanks again for the fun commission Nick!

Huge shoutout to Stephanie for sending a pic of the cathedral print she got to hang above her mantle!

The past couple months have been rough, with covid spikes and then Hurricane Ida. It’s friends and neighbors banding together, helping each other get through it that have made bearable. And for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you Stephanie! If you aren’t following Mose Mary And Me, do it now! She has the most fun and amazing pop culture and customized prayer candles. In existence before “New Orleans” even bore its name, and having served as a Spanish armory, Tujague’s restaurant has survived decades of war, depression, fire and plague.

Guillaume and Marie Abadie Tujague married in 1852 and set sail for America from Bordeaux France. Guillaume Tujague had been a butcher in the French Market for three years before he and his wife established Tujague’s Restaurant in 1856. They resided in their home at 830 Chartres St, located one block behind Tujaques, which is the current location of Skull And Brush Art Gallery!

To this date, Tujague’s, one of oldest bars in New Orleans. Liquid spirits aren’t the only ones to be found on the premises. Owners, staff and patrons have a multitude of stories featuring ghostly unexplained phenomenon such as slamming doors, broken china, shadowy figures and apparitions caught on camera. It seems Tujague’s remains a popular destination even in the afterlife!
